Taking the Stage is our annual theatre programme that offers emerging directors and Ukrainian theatres an opportunity to stage original and socially relevant artistic work with mentoring support from some of the best and most innovative UK theatres.  

Now in its third year, Taking the Stage has worked with some of the best UK and Ukrainian theatres. The list includes London’s Young Vic, Newcastle’s Live Theatre, Hull’s Truck Theatre and Cardiff's Sherman Cymru. In Ukraine, the programme runs in partnership withTeatralna Platforma NGO.

In the first year of the programme, young Ukrainian director Olga Tututia-Prasolova directed David Harrower’s ‘Knives in Hens’ at Ivan Franko Theatre in Kyiv, and UK-based stage designer Minglu Wang designed the first Ukrainian production of Shakespeare’s ‘The Winter’s Tale’ in Lviv. In its second year, the programme supported four new productions in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Severdonetsk.

The open call is now finished, 12 finalists will present their readings of the plays at the mini-festival of British drama on 6-7 October.
