Role overview
There is a high demand for English in Ukraine and the importance of English for a professional career is well recognised. The British Council has launched a number of projects to increase the country English language teaching and learning capacity.
The English for Civil Servants project was launched in March 2012 and is aimed at English and job-related skills development for Ukrainian civil servants involved in Ukraine’s EU integration process. The project programme covers business skills and adopts an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) approach. It is extremely popular among civil servants and we currently deliver English lessons to 470 civil servants at more than eleven governmental institutions. The project will be expanded 2016.
The project team of teachers has a reputation for quality and it is critical to maintain our excellent reputation among our partners to ensure successful partner relationships.
Purpose of job:
- To promote and ensure quality and effective teaching and learning of English
- To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission
Requirements
Essential:
- Teaching competencies (all at level 1) as described in the BC Behaviours and Teaching Skills:
- Classroom management
- Course and lesson planning
- Subject knowledge
- Understanding your learners
- Learning technologies
- High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user CEFR C2: IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module; Cambridge CPE
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent
- Understanding and experience of ESP teaching
- Understanding and experience of corporate teaching
- Experience of teaching high-level clients
Desirable:
- British Council Teacher Training Course, e.g. TKT
- Cambridge CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL
- Recognised diploma in EFL i.e. DELTA
