We're happy to announce the start of the Taking the Stage 2017 programme for Ukrainian theatres and young directors. The third iteration of the Taking the Stage programme is aimed at supporting artistically innovative and socially relevant projects by emerging directors who are interested in acquiring new professional experience and exposure to international expertise. The theme for this year’s competition is borders and boundaries.

We invite you to attend a programme launch event which will take place at 15:30 on 8 June in EduStation 31B1 (31B1 Pushkinska st., Kyiv). The participation is free of charge but registration is required. To register, please send your contact details, name and surname to Theatre@britishcouncil.org.ua

This year, unlike the previous years, we are looking for proposals of UK plays or texts adapted from UK literature/poetry which are already translated into a local language. The only condition is that the proposed piece fits within this year’s theme of borders and boundaries.

We are looking for emerging directors to partner with a theatre and submit a joint application. Directors need to have a BA degree and have experience of no more than 5 theatre productions. Theatres can be public, private or mixed, and focus on any theatre genre (drama, youth/children, puppet, musical, etc.)

Winners of Taking the Stage 2017 will receive a year-long clearance of copyright for the piece they’ve proposed; mentoring from British and Ukrainian directors for the duration of the production; a 30,000 UAH grant towards production costs; media support from the British Council; and the possibility of undertaking training secondment or training in one of the partner theatres (B2.2 level of English or more would be required).

CALLS FOR TAKING THE STAGE 2017 WILL OPEN ON 8 JUNE

Taking the Stage is run in partnership with NGO “Theatrical Platform”.
