Connections Through Culture grants: guidance for UK-Ukraine partnerships
This page highlights Ukraine-specific guidance for applicants developing Connections Through Culture projects between the UK and Ukraine. For full information about the programme, eligibility criteria, grant amounts, deadlines and application process, please visit the global Connections Through Culture page and read the full FAQs.
Who can apply
Applications must involve collaboration between at least one UK-based partner and at least one Ukraine-based partner.
Eligible applicants may include:
- arts and cultural organisations, festivals, biennials, hubs, networks, collectives and organisations working across the creative industries that are legally registered in Ukraine or the UK;
- individuals based in Ukraine or the UK, such as artists, creative practitioners or cultural professionals.
If a Ukraine-based individual acts as the lead partner, they must be registered as a sole trader / private entrepreneur (FOP) and provide a valid EDRPOU code (ЄДРПОУ) in the grant application. Please note that failure to provide a valid EDRPOU code for a Ukraine-based lead partner will result in the application being rejected.
The lead partner receives the grant funds from the British Council, manages the grant and reports on behalf of the partnership.
Grant amount for UK-Ukraine partnerships
For projects involving partners from the UK and Ukraine, the available grant amount is up to £10,000 per partnership.
Risk management and security considerations for projects involving Ukraine
Applicants must provide evidence of appropriate risk management for planned activities and for the project as a whole.
For any public programme activity taking place in Ukraine, security planning must include appropriate safety measures, careful venue selection and access to a shelter at the venue or nearby.
Where project activities involve people travelling to Ukraine from outside the country, applicants must follow FCDO travel advice. Travel by individuals from outside Ukraine is only permissible to regions designated as “orange”. Travel to areas designated as “red” is not allowed under the terms of this grant.
Only programme-essential and clearly justified travel will be considered.
As the safety situation in Ukraine can change, applicants should be ready to adapt project activities and travel arrangements. This may include cancelling, postponing or changing the format of planned activities.
The British Council team will assess whether appropriate safeguarding and security measures have been put in place.
